Americans age 15 to 19 spent only five minutes a day reading for fun during the week in 2014, down from 10 minutes on average in 2008. Much of teenagers' leisure time is taken up by watching TV (2 hours and 11 minutes during the week), as well as 43 minutes socializing and communicating. By contrast, people 75 and older spent an hour and seven minutes a day reading for pleasure and an hour socializing and communicating in 2014.
